Google Trends shows search trends on specific keywords among time on Google. Google Insights for Search is the one I love the best. It shows geographical distribution of search in addition to a lot more. You are able to look at the report for up to five keywords comparatively in both tools.
While Google is not the only search engine in the world, the data is significant to rely on, just don’t write your Ph.D. thesis based on that.
So let’s say I want to sell WordPress and Joomla, excuse me for this example I am a techie, I begin with overall yearly trends for search, and then look at the last 12 months. Then I use Insights and look at the geographical distribution of search within the last 12 months.
Strangely enough, in my example Cuba generated highest number of search for WordPress within the last 12 months; you will also get a lot of WOW moments when using these tools.
