Are You An Expert In Your Industry?

Have you ever noticed that most businesses in a particular industry all say the same thing in their advertising?

  • They are all “honest”.
  • They all “get the job right the first time”.
  • They all “insert generic statement here”.

 

I’m sure that most of them are what they say they are and that’s fantastic. But if you were to spend a bunch of money for an ad in the phone directory, newspaper or anywhere else, wouldn’t you want your business to stand out from the others? (Ignore the fact that I mentioned anything about spending..er, wasting money in print advertising. You get the idea).

Expert In Your Industry

It makes a lot more sense for you to do something radically different than everyone else and stand out from the sea of electricians, mortgage brokers, financial planners, or whatever it is that you do.

 

So how do you stand out from the crowd you ask?

 

You need to position yourself as the expert or authority in your industry.

 

And how do you do that?

 

You give away all your best content.

 

What? Nat, have you just lost your mind? I can’t tell everyone my industry secret!

 

No my friend. I lost it a long time ago and yes you should. Most people aren’t going to take action on whatever it is you tell them anyway and all the good stuff that you do tell them further goes to show that you:

a) care

b) know what the heck you’re talking about

c) are the person that they need to do business with

 

I suggest creating a series of short videos with each video being one frequently asked question that you hear all the time from your potential or new clients, patients, customers and then answer it.

 

Not only will it save you time from having to answer that question all the time, it also helps others get to the next step faster which of course is getting a consultation, hiring you or spending money with you.

 

Next on the list is to make a simliar series of videos but this time make them with what I call “should ask questions”. There are the golden nuggets that if they only knew these few things, they would be telling the world about how awesome you are or throwing money at you. Either one you’d be cool with, right?

 

From there you can distribute the videos to various video sites like Youtube, Vimeo, Daily Motion and others or turn them into articles and upload those to EzineArticles or a thousand other article sites.

 

You WILL get more traffic to your website and phone calls for your business if you do this. Trust me on this one.

 

You do want to be perceived as an expert don’t you?
