Remarketing; Stalk Your Target Audience

Are You That Weird Stalker That Knows Too Much Are You Remarketing

Have you noticed that when your browsing the internet the same banner ads seem to pop up? The strange thing about these ads are, they are from websites you are familiar with. You might be wondering how and why this strange phenomenon is happening. The answer is Remarketing.

Remarketing is a Google AdWords feature that enables advertisers to literally stalk users who have visited their site in the past. Google tracks a user’s cookies and detects if that user has visited a site that is participating in Google’s Remarketing program. So when that user visits any site that is showing Google network ads then the advertiser’s graphic banner ad will follow that user around the internet.

Remarketing

This is an extremely powerful advertising tool because you can create a visual graphic that will get exposure to someone who has already shown interest in your website. Just like standard Pay-Per click ads, you pay only if a user clicks on it however, remarketing is visually more powerful because it gives you an opportunity to use creativity and branding to keep your business in the forefront of your target audience’s mind. You can create a  graphic ad that is constantly showing for your audience and you can get clever with the visual to be effective in itself without them clicking on it. Think about driving down a busy street and seeing a billboard, maybe you won’t pick up the phone and call the advertiser right away, but that visual will stay in your mind and even weeks or months later that person will probably remember your ad and pick up the phone or visit your site when they are ready for your product or service.

Google is getting more creative with ways to increase profits.  Let’s face it they are really trying to push Adwords and this is just another ingenious way for Google to get their PPC ads showing up in even more ways.

It’s awesome for advertisers to be able to use a little more creativity with their PPC ads.  With standard PPC ads you can only use words (and a limited amount).  So if you participate in Remarketing, be sure to think outside the box and create something memorable that will stick in your audiences mind even if they don’t click on the ad.  But be careful, the market you are targeting are people that are familiar with you, so don’t create something lame or else people might get annoyed with your ads.
